Dear Potential Consignor,

Thank you for considering Elinor Coleman's Vintage Mirage as the store for consigning your clothing, jewelry and accessories. We hope that you will feel good about clearing out your wardrobe and making some money at the same time!

Consigning as a business has been around for many years. Now we think about this concept as the ultimate reuse and recycle endeavor, and it feels good to know that your items have found a new home. It may be possible that upon visiting Elinor Coleman's Vintage Mirage you may find a new item that you will want to buy to enhance your wardrobe!

In addition to the current consignment department of contemporary designer items of clothing, jewelry, and accessories, ECVM also has a mint condition vintage designer department for sale- clothing, jewelry, and accessories beginning with the Victorian era (1840-1914) through the Camelot era of the 1960's.

So now we are extending the invitation to you, to consign the current stylish clothing, accessories and jewelry with us.

The professionally trained staff at ECVM is here to assist you with your questions and concerns. In addition, we offer an In Home Wardrobe and Estate Liquidation Consultation Service. Please call us or visit our Special Services page to learn more about this unique service which is billed either at an hourly rate or by project phase.

We look forward to your call.
Thank you,
Elinor Coleman

ECVM Consignment Procedures To Help You Get Ready

Here are some general directions, procedures, and formalities which should clarify how we can work together.

We accept women's clothing according to the current season of the year and within the most recent three years. We also accept purses, scarves, belts, hat pins, gloves and, of course, designer jewelry. At the moment, due to space restrictions, we are not accepting any more hats or shoes. Sometimes there are exceptions, so please call us and we will make a case by case decision.

Elinor Coleman's Vintage Mirage has a vintage department, so in addition, we are accepting couture and historic items as well, since we have a wardrobe, downsizing and liquidating consultation service.

As the consignor, you will receive a unique customer code, which includes all of your items and permits us at ECVM to keep all of your information easy to access for your convenience and clarity.

The professionally trained staff of Elinor Coleman's Vintage Mirage does the inspections of the items before accepting them for consignment and upon acceptance of the items, prices the items. All beginning prices are below market value, the price you paid for the item originally.  Then as the calendar advances, all items will be subjected to periodic mark downs, these reductions are left up to the store's discretion. The store and the consignor are in a 50/50% relationship.

At the end of the season, sometimes for 2 months up to a maximum of 6 months, the items will be donated if they have not sold. The jewelry often continues on sale for the longer period of time.

If the item was not accepted for consignment, it will be  donated to a non profit organization, and we will send you a final inventory roster and a donation letter from the tax exempt non profit organization.

Payment checks will be sent to you, one month after the sale of the item, providing that the amount is $25 or more. Checks are sent at the end of each month. You may request a log of status for your items by email.

All items must be in mint condition and of a designer level. The items must be in perfect condition which means absolutely clean; there CANNOT be spots, stains, tears, rips, cigarette smells, animal hairs, and mothball smells. In addition, zippers must be in working order, all buttons must be attached, and belts or original ties must be included.

So it is very important that during your inventory at home, you gather and list these items and check to make certain that every item is in perfect condition. Please go through your button/ repair box and locate the additional buttons/ ornaments for these garments.  (These additional buttons, sequins, or beads can be placed in a small closeable baggie and attached to the garment with a pin.)

All items must be on hangers, whenever possible or folded neatly in a box or bag. No items are accepted in garbage bags. Pieces of jewelry must be brought in small boxes, jewelry boxes or baggies divided by type, such as necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, broaches. Jewelry boxes are the best, in order that the stones and metals do not get scratched. Some of the jewelry boxes can be returned to you upon request.

Before you inventory your items for consignment, you may of course call us and ask for assistance. The inventory sheet is there for you to make certain that you also know specifically what you are bringing to us for consignment. Our staff is professionally trained and in some cases, we will in our process of inspection reject items which we believe will not sell in our store.

You must make an appointment with us, generally Wednesday through Friday, during business hours. Since our store will be open, we must work with customers who are purchasing merchandize first. We will make every attempt to go over the inventory sheet with you, but on occasion we will do the inspection after hours and call you with our results.  All rejected items are donated to a non profit tax exempt organization. You will receive a donation letter for those items, as well as an inventory listing of your account and all of the items taken on consignment.

You must read and sign the consignment contract before you leave the items with us. We generally recommend between one and twenty items per consignor.

Since we know our customers and the vintage and consignment business, we  are  NOT currently interested in the following brands: Gap, Talbots, Chicos, Banana Republic, Liz Claiborn, Target, Kohls, Forever 21, Ellen Tracy, Nine West, Black & White, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, L.L. Bean, Spiegel or others catalog clothes brands. Also according to limited space, we are not accepting blue jeans, swimsuits, or lingerie.
