The distinctiveness of the 1950's can be found in the cocktail dresses which used beads and drapery to show beautiful backs. These 1950's garments had metal zippers and sometimes had draped gauzy fabric as scarves attached to the dress for flair. In addition, the jackets in the 1950's were made longer, so that now current designers are encouraging the public to use the sheath dress with a jacket as the new suit. Since the Victorian Era to the present day, there has been no follow through of a common sizing system. Each era had a different proportion measuring system and style. Also, since many of the articles were made to order, those tailors and dress makers did not include sizing labels in their garments. All of the garments in the store are measure and marked on the tag with bust, waist, and hip measurements, and then grouped by bust size, or skirts by waist size.
