A little about vintage clothes and sizing:
The drapery of the 1930's and 1940's is amazing.  Since many garments were made to order for the client, there can be unusual tucks, closures, and fabrics, which were designed to enhance the best silhouette or architecture of the woman client.   Many of the dresses also have a matching short jacket in the same material, and the buttons are often hand made in covered fabric, shell, rhinestones or glass.

The distinctiveness of the 1950's can be found in the cocktail dresses which used beads and drapery to show beautiful backs.  These 1950's garments had metal zippers and sometimes had draped gauzy fabric as scarves attached to the dress for flair.  In addition, the jackets in the 1950's were made longer, so that now current designers are encouraging the public to use the sheath dress with a jacket as the new suit.  These fine details set the outfit off so beautifully so that the garment and outfit become timeless.

Since the Victorian Era to the present day, there has been no follow through of a common sizing system.  Each era had a different proportion measuring system and style.  Also, since many of the articles were made to order, those tailors and dress makers did not include sizing labels in their garments.

The goal is to locate and choose the size that enhances the figure of each client who comes into Vintage Mirage.  All of the garments in the store are measure and marked on the tag with bust, waist, and hip measurements, and then grouped by bust size, or skirts by waist size.

Since we downsize estates year round, there is always something new and unique waiting for you.  Please stop by or
